In the beginning God Created the Heavens and the Earth! Many thousands of years later someone invented comic books. Sometime after that someone decided it would be a good idea to have comic books with religious themes. And still, later yet, Old Time Stories jumped on the bandwagon. Actually, it wasn’t much of a bandwagon. There really are not all that many comic books about God. At least not many that realistically portray Christian doctrine. That is what OTS is all about.

Our goal is to present the Good News in ways that young people, and adults also, can relate to. In our graphic novel ANDY, a boy, Andy Baxter, presents the reader with the Biblical tale of David and the early kings of Israel. But we also follow Andy around and see how he deals with real life situations. Also, Justice Avenger, the primary object of Andy’s fantasy life, explodes onto the pages in very entertaining segments.

GOD:
God is the Creator and ruler of the universe. There is only one God, eternally existent in three co-equal persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

HUMANITY:
Humans are created in the image of God. This means that we are both sacred and sinful. We are spiritual, moral, and relational beings. We were created by God to have a relationship with Him. However, we are separated from God by our sin.

JESUS:
The only way to restore our relationship with God is by accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. Jesus lived a sinless life on the earth, but died a sinners death on the cross. Through His death and resurrection we can have our sin forgiven, and enter into an eternal relationship with God.

HOLY SPIRIT:
The Holy Spirit is the power of God in our world today. The Holy Spirit calls sinners to repentance, and empowers/equips believers for ministry in the church and world.

CHURCH:
The church is the community of believers that have made Jesus Christ their Lord and Savior. Through fellowship with the Holy Spirit, the church’s role is to lead people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ, and serve the needs of a hurting world.

BIBLE:
The Bible is God’s word to humanity. It was written under the supernatural inspiration of the Holy Spirit. It is holy and authoritative. It is the supreme source of truth, and the sole basis of our beliefs.

Last week I had my first book signing. It was at the International Christian Retail Show in Orlando, Florida. I arrived in Orlando around midnight the night before the signing and was rudely awaken several times throughout the night by rowdy vacationers. I drug myself out of bed at 6:30, ate breakfast and drove over to the convention center. Storm clouds were brewing. The humidity was already quite balmy. I was dead tired. Faaaaantastic...

Was THE DARK KNIGHT the best comic books movie ever?

On Friday I went to see the new Batman movie, The Dark Knight. What a great movie. I am sure it will be remembered as one of the best super hero movies ever. Batman and The Joker together again on the big screen. That idea had me remembering the first Tim Burton Batman film from 1989. That was nineteen years ago! I was a kid then. I remember going to see it on opening night with Jeremy McPherson and his dad. We were middle-school friends. I remember we went to the theater hours early to get our tickets then went out to eat before going back to the theater to watch the movie.
